Youth Mentorship & Skills Hub

The Youth Mentorship & Skills Hub is one of the flagship programs of the Johnson Alice Foundation (JAC), designed to address the rising challenges of youth unemployment and lack of opportunities for economic self-sufficiency in Nigeria and across Africa. This project aims to equip young people with practical vocational skills, personal development mentorship, and startup guidance, preparing them for meaningful careers and entrepreneurship in their local communities.

Africa’s youth population is rapidly growing, but with limited access to education, mentorship, and financial support, many young individuals face the reality of poverty, crime, and hopelessness. At JAC, we believe that when young people are given the tools to succeed, they become powerful change-makers—not only for themselves but for their families, communities, and beyond.

How the Program Works

Our Youth Mentorship & Skills Hub operates through a combination of structured training sessions, hands-on workshops, and one-on-one mentorship. The program is executed in collaboration with certified trainers, vocational centers, local business leaders, and community-based organizations. Each participant undergoes a needs assessment to identify their interests, capabilities, and areas for improvement.

The selected youths are then enrolled into intensive training tracks based on their interests—ranging from tailoring and fashion design, digital literacy (including basic coding, graphic design, and office tools), hairdressing, agriculture, crafts, baking, and small-scale enterprise management. Beyond the technical skills, participants receive soft-skills coaching, mentorship on goal-setting, confidence building, and access to small grants or tools to start their businesses.
